GROUP MEMBERSHIP | SET ROLES

 

Everyone in the group has access to view information in their groups. With Roles, you can determine which users have additional rights to create, add, edit, or delete information by module.

Three Roles

Instead of complex matrices of user rights and privileges, we wanted to make it simple. Everyone in a group will fall into one of the following three roles - Member, Moderator, Admin.

Member

By default, every newly invited user to a group is considered a Member. Here's what a member can do:

  • View information in any of the group modules displayed
  • Create and send new group messages (in Listserv and Moderated Listservs)
  • Download photos and files 

 

Moderator

A Moderator has all of the same rights as a Member, but Moderators can have the ability to add, edit, or delete information for specific modules.  Here's what a Moderator can do in addition to members:

  • Add new group items to modules that they have access to
  • Edit existing group items in modules that they have access to
  • Delete existing group items in modules that they have access to 

 

Admin

An Admin has all rights available to control everything about a particular group.  All groups must have at least one Admin at all times but there is no limit to how many Admins a group can have. Here's what group Admins can do:

  • Add, Edit, or Delete any item for any group module
  • Add, edit, or remove group members 
  • View or modify the group's settings in the group administration panel
  • Approve or reject pending messages (Moderated Listserv only)
  • Upgrade or delete the group

 

How to update roles

Group admins have the ability to modify a user's role through the Group Administration panel.

Your group's current member list will be displayed as shown below. 

 

FirefoxScreenSnapz412.jpgWhen the Group Member pop-up opens, you will be in the Current Members tab.

From your list of current members, select a member by clicking in their row in the grid. The row will change color to a dark gray.

To modify the member's role, first click the "Edit" button at the bottom of the window.

A pop-up will open for the selected member and you will be in the "Rights" tab.

From this tab, you can change any Member to an Admin or Moderator. When you select Moderator, you can choose which specific modules this person should have add, edit, and delete rights for.

When you're finished, click "Save". The next time the member accesses the group, their experience will be based on their Role setup here.
